Cheesy Pork chops!  Yumm-o!  What more can I say!  You may be a little skeptical at first, but don't be!  They are D-E-L-I-C-O-U-S!

5DDNov1 300x213 Angies Cheesy Pork Chops Big Meals, Little Budget

Cheesy Pork Chops
Ingredients:

Pork Chops (On sale at Harvey's this past week for .99lb)
10 tsp sour cream
Seasoning salt (or you favorite seasoning)
2 cups shredded cheese (I like taco blend, for the little bit of added flavor)

Directions
1) line the pan with your chops and sprinkle with your favorite seasoning.
2) smother with 1 tsp sour cream per chop.
3) add enough shredded cheese to cover the top.
4) bake at 350. Adjust the cooking time to the thickness of the meat. Thin pork chops are done in 15 minutes. For an inch and a half of chop, I’d bake for 35 – 40 minutes.
5) Ready to eat out of the oven.

I know, right? Too easy to be delicious. Surprisingly, it’s not!  I still have one picky child so I just leave one bare and cook it the same.  :)

Blessings!

♥ Savvy Savin' Suppers ♥

Well I don't know about you but sometimes I get stumped with what to do with leftovers especially after a holiday.  This is exactly my dilemma today, Ham.  We love ham, my children love ham, BUT honestly how many ham sandwiches can one person eat?  Or potato soup with Ham?  Or Ham pot pies?  The list is endless.  They all are very good and all simple to make BUT I was on the search for something different something NEW!

And this is what I cam across!  Ham and Cheese Frittata!  Oh it's heaven on earth for breakfast!  Or Lunch or Dinner!  And of course, it's within my $5 budget!

ham and cheese frittata ser Ham and Cheese Frittata

Ingredients

1 Tbsp olive oil ($.10)

1 large potato, peeled and diced ($.15)

1/2 onion, sliced into strips ($.15)

2 cups leftover ham, diced ($1.50)

8 eggs ($.80)

1/4 cup milk ($.03)

1 tsp salt and pepper, each

1/2 – 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese ($.75)

Fresh Fruit ($1)

Directions

Preheat oven to 450.

1. Mince garlic.

mincing garlic 1 Ham and Cheese Frittata

Using the flat part of the knife, press down on the garlic clove until it crushes.

Cut off the stubby end and peel off the skin.

Chop with knife.

2. In skillet, saute minced garlic, diced potatoes and onions in olive oil.

3. Once brown, add a few tsp of water and cook another 1-2 minutes. Then add in the diced ham.

4. In bowl, whisk eggs, milk, salt and pepper.

5. Pour egg mixture over the ham, potatoes and onions.

6. Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes, until the eggs have set around the edges of the skillet.

7. Place skillet into the oven and bake at 450 for 5-10 minutes, or until eggs have set in the middle.

ham and cheese frittata 5 Ham and Cheese Frittata

8. Add shredded cheese to the top and bake another 1-2 minutes until cheese melts.

9. Serve Ham and Cheese Frittata with Fresh Fruit (I used my $1 off Produce from Publix and My $1 off Produce from Target).

Cost $4.48

This price could very well be considerably cheaper if you worked the sales for the week.  I know recently they had a dozen eggs for .99 (Publix also had $1 off Dairy Coupon) and Ham would be FREE because you are using leftovers (or at least I did) and if no leftovers use ($1 of Deli and get it there) and my fruit was free from the $'s off produce.

What I do is, each week I make a Menu of what I am going to cook that week writing down every ingredient used to make that particular dish.  Then take into consideration what leftovers I have first, then verses what I have in the freezer and in my stockpile.  Mark of what you have, then make a list of what you need.  Work your grocery list off of that.

Blessings!

Holly :)

gayle+2 Meal for 6 for $5 by Gayle from Grocery Cart Challenge

Serve with Butter Rolls

1 cup warm water

1 cup  powedered milk ($.20)

1 cup butter or margarine softened ($.22)

 1 cup sugar ($.07)

2 eggs ($.25)

1  teaspoons salt

4 cups bread flour ($.10)

2  teaspoons active dry yeast ($.75)

Put all ingredients in bread machine pan in order listed.

Run on dough cycle.

When cycle is complete, divide dough into 24 pieces and shape into balls.

Place in greased 9 x 13 baking pan.

Cover and let rise in warm place for 15 minutes.

Bake at 375 for 15 – 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Grand Total for both recipes $4.74

Now my family is larger than most with 6 people (sometimes more depending on who stops by), so this would feed all of us with only a little leftovers. If your family is an average size of four people this would be one meal for dinner and one meal for the freezer. If it's two meals the grand total would be $2.37.  Now thats what Savvy Coupon Clippers likes!  Not to mention it's supper yummy!

♥ Savvy Savin' Suppers ♥

On this weeks ♥ Savvy Savin' Suppers ♥  I was somewhat at a loss.  I always post a recipe that my family is eating for that week.  Well the grocery store was my inspiration today.  I ran into Winn Dixie to get Cinnamon Chips for those delicious Fall Muffins we posted last week (by the way, that's the only store I have been able to find them in Brunswick, Georgia) but decided to walk through the stores and see if I could find any other deals.  To show you my deal, I took a picture of it.

Winn Dixie currently has their Chef Requested Bacon Wrapped Fillets on Sale for $4.99 BUT their was a $3.00 off Sticker on them!  So that's 2 steak Fillets for $1.99!  That's well within my $5.00 budget!  So I got a pack of Fillets, Paired it with some Roasted Carrots and Potato's, and dinner was delicious!

This is my recipe for grilling steak:

Sprinkle your steaks with your favorite seasoning, ours is Garlic Salt and Pepper.  You can grill it on a grill or inside, tonight mine was on my cast iron grillet.  Cook for about 6-7 minutes per side, only turning once.

Roasted Carrots and Potato's

Cut Carrots and Potato's into nice size pieces, place on sheet pan.  Drizzle olive oil over  vegetables (Sparingly do not drown the vegetables in oil).  Sprinkle with Salt and Pepper.  Cook in oven on 450 for 20 minutes!

Total Cost:

Steak    $1.99
Carrots $  .99
Potato's $  .75

Total : $ 3.73

Now who said you couldn't have a delicious steak dinner on the cheap?  And a Fillet at that!  Savvy Coupon Clippers say you CAN,  I even have $1.27 left over!

Blessings!

Savvy Savin' Suppers

I was trying to find something simple this week, and with the cool weather approaching us ( and the 10 lb bag of potatoes that are $1.99 at Walmart this week ), something with Potatoes was cooking on my brain.

So,this week's recipe is for:

Potato and Ham Soup

Ingredients:

•2 cups potatoes, peeled & cubed ( $ 1.00 )
•3 tablespoons butter ( $.20 )
•1 small onion, chopped fine ( $ .60 )
•black pepper
•3 cups milk ( $.25 )
•1/2 teaspoon salt
•1 cup cooked, cubed ham ( $ 1.98 )
•1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, (4 ounces)  ( $ .88 )

Preparation:

Cook potatoes in boiling water until tender.
Drain; reserve 1 cup of the liquid.
Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
Add onion; cook, stirring, until tender.
Season with black pepper.
Cook for about 3 more minutes, stirring.
Add potatoes, reserved liquid, milk, and salt; stir well.
Add ham; simmer for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
Remove from heat and let cool for about 5 minutes. Add cheese; stir until melted.
Serves 3 to 4.

Total : $ 4.91
I had most of this in my stockpile, got the $1.99 10 lb bag and cubed ham from Walmart this week. Everything else has been on sale within the last few weeks.

This soup is GREAT for cold weather, simple to make on those hectic nights when all you want to do is relax. Also, You can cook a big pot of this and freeze it in ziploc bags, GREAT for one of the " spur of the moment " dinner options .

Enjoy :)

I love this recipe, one because it's within my $5 and under meals category, two because it's a recipe I can make ahead and either freeze or put in the fridge and pop in the oven when I get home, and three because it's just plain yummy! Paired with either instant or homemade mashed potato's and a vegetable it's still under $5 for all.

♥ Savvy Savin' Suppers ♥

I wanted to post a recipe for soup this week staying with our under $5 dollar budget.  The weather is cooling off just a bit and I am getting antsy to pull out my fall and winter recipes!  This recipe is one of my go to recipes on nights when we are really busy or we are feeling a little under the weather.  My family has been making this recipe for decades and decades.  My kids love it.

Hamburger Soup

2 lbs of Hamburger Meat
1 Medium Size Yellow Onion
2 Cans of Diced Tomato
1 Cup of Long Grain White Rice

Dice up your onion, place in pan.  Season Hamburger Meat with Salt and Pepper.  Brown Hamburger Meat with the Onions.  When meat is cooked fully, drain all rendered fat (grease).  Place Meat back in pan.  Add 2 cans of diced tomato's, 2 1/2 Quarts Water (10 Cups you may need more just make a judgement call) and Bring to a Boil.  Add Your Rice at that time.  Continue Boiling until Rice is tender.  Soups Done!

Breakdown

Hamburger Meat 2 lbs ($2.29)
One Yellow Onion (.32)
2 can's diced tomatoes ($1.60)
1 Cup Long Grain Rice (.33)

Total : $4.54

On the recipe, it doesn't have to be exact.  This is just about what I do.  I season to taste with Salt and Pepper, I sometimes add more hamburger meat or don't use as much depends on what I have.  It's soup and can easily be adapted to suit your pantry/freezer.

Tip:  I keep a bowl in my freezer for leftover vegetables.  If we have green beans, peas, corn whatever, I put it in this bowl and freeze it.  Ruffly once a month I make vegetable soup.  Normally the only thing I have to add is some meat and sometimes I don't add that.  The one thing about being frugal is not wasting, and I try my best not to do that.  I will try by then end of the month to share a Savvy Vegetable Soup Recipe!

Also if any of you try the recipes we post, please comment us and let us know how your family liked/disliked them.  Let us know if you made changes to the recipe.  Your change may help another person.

Blessings!

Holly :)

♥Savvy Savin' Suppers♥

I don't know about you but I like to try new recipes, and if I can keep the price down low, that make it all the better!  Well, each week I will be posting a new recipe (maybe an old favorite that's new to you) that will be less than $5 for a family of 4.  If you try the recipe's, please leave a comment below.  Also if you have a go to recipe that is less than $5, please post that as well.  I will try to incorporate sale items and freebies, that have been in our 6 week cycle.  So for now, Happy Clipping, Happy Cooking, and Happy Eating, on the low that is!

Pork-Chop Casserole

Ingredients:

1lb Porkchops (You can add more if you wish, for my family 1lb is plenty)
1Cup Long Grain White Rice
1 Small Can of Mushrooms (Can be omitted)
1 Can of Cream of Mushroom
2 Cans of Beef Consome'
1 Stick of Butter

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

In a fry pan, melt 2 Tablespoons of Butter.  Sear both sides of the pork chop to lock in flavor and juices.  Do not cook fully, they will continue to cook in oven.  I personally cut the bones out of my porkchops, but to each is own.

In a 9 x 13 baking/casserole dish.  Pour one stick of melted butter in the bottom of the pan.  Sprinkle the one cup of rice over the butter. Sprinkle canned mushrooms over rice. In a seperate bowl, mix together the 1 can cream of mushroom and 2 cans consome' together.  Then pour of rice mixture.  Lay porkchops on top of all ingredients.  Cover with tin foil.  Bake in oven at 350 degrees for one full hour.  Take out of oven and let sit undisturbed for about 5-10 minutes.

Enjoy!

Publix regurally has Green Giant Steamers BOGO and you can score veggies for free or close to it.  Pair that with the casserole and you have a balanced meal!

Breakdown:

1lb Porkchops (.99 per lb )
1 cup Long Grain Rice  (Free at Harris Teeter Last Week)
1 small can mushrooms (.50)
1 Can Cream of Mushroom (.30) on sale last week at Publix
2 Cans of Beef Consome' (.60) on sale last week at Publix
1 Stick of Butter (.20)

Grand Total:  $2.59

With a price that low, you could have dinner and a "Simply Savvy Dessert"  for all under $5.00!
